Senior Scientific Program Manager

Location: Bethesda, MD
ERPi is currently seeking a full-time Senior Scientific Program Manager to provide onsite support at our Bethesda, MD site.

The Role:
This candidate will serve as a Senior Scientific Program Manager to ERPi’s clients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The Senior Scientific Program Manager will collaborate with NHLBI leaders and staff to develop, implement, and monitor NHLBI’s high-priority, scientific projects and programs to achieve executive leadership’s vision, goals, and strategic objectives. The Scientific Program Manager will provide the following support:
  • Provides expert-level program management guidance and oversight, using PMBOK principles, over multiple complex, high-visibility projects within NHLBI's portfolio.
  • Builds relationships with key scientific leaders, both internal and external to the Institute, to work towards common NHLBI goals.
  • Provides leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones   
  • Manages all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure the overall program is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives 
  • Demonstrates functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices     
  • Provides executive experience needed to conduct program assessments and develop recommendations for improvements of current scientific and clinical research program operations.
  • Collaborates with other clinical and scientific research professionals to develop recommendations for current and future initiatives.
  • Advises upper-management and staff on formulation of new strategies and sensitive/complicated issues related to extramural and intramural research programs.
  • Works with NHLBI staff to develop and implement new and proactive programs geared to specific audiences.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Ten years of experience functioning in a project or program management capacity in clinical or scientific research field.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences
  • Experience overseeing the administration of grant and contract support within clinical and scientific programs.
  • Experience providing leadership and scientific expertise in the planning and implementation of scientific studies or other activities.
  • Experience translating program objectives and translational research and preclinical development priorities into scientific agendas and broad planning issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining project objectives; planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to strict deadlines and within budget; overseeing quality control, assembling data and managing program budgets
  • Experience and high comfort level working with MS Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including reports and presentations
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Strong team player, able to manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing client needs
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative, results-driven environment
  • Ability to build and manage client relationships at all levels
  • Ability to obtain a government Public Trust/NACI clearance
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with National Institutes of Health (NIH) or NHLBI
  • Ten (10) years plus of experience functioning in a management capacity in clinical or scientific research field.
  • Master’s Degree in related field.
