Healthcare Engineering Program Manager

Location: Fairfax, VA
ERPi is currently seeking a full-time Healthcare Engineering Program Manager to provide onsite support at our Fairfax, VA site

The Role:
ERPi supports engineering and facility management programs and technology tools for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and all associated owned and leased VHA facilities within all VHA Networks. We support the "Environment of Care” which has a ubiquitous presence throughout VHA, enabling and supporting virtually every aspect of patient care provided to Veterans. The Healthcare Engineering Program Manager will lead and conduct engineering consulting services within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare Systems (VA HCS) and Medical Centers (VAMC), focusing on the Environment of Care: healthcare engineering, biomedical engineering, facilities management, and occupational health and safety.  Provide detailed reviews of operational efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety and value in selected programs/services to determine opportunities to improve process, quality monitoring & management; enhance standardization; and track outcomes & improvements. Designated programs/services reviews will survey current state and help identify operational gaps while defining the future state based upon VA requirements and industry benchmarks to strengthen the VA’s commitment to providing world class Healthcare to America’s Veterans. Designated programs/services for review and improvement may include, but are not limited to:
  • Healthcare engineering
  • Clinical engineering, Biomedical engineering, Pharmacy, Lab, Imaging, Medical risk management
  • Water safety management (Legionella prevention & management)
  • Facility maintenance, Facility safety
  • Construction management and safety
  • Critical utility systems
  • Sterile Processing Department (SPD), Sterile Processing Services (SPS) of critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment
  • Quality management system, Regulatory compliance
  • Perform project management and program overview, such as reviewing communications, operational set-ups, non-financial asset deployment, work flow management, as well as reviewing policy and directive adherence, performance measures, and bench-marking within identified program/service. 
  • Perform analysis of the existing designated program/service business & care
  • Staffing, supplies, facilities, and equipment
  • Review and compare the designated medical center programs/services to VA & non-VA healthcare benchmarks, standards, and regulatory requirements such as DOD and comparable private hospitals.
  • Assess front-line management/leadership effectiveness in specific programs/services. Collaboratively design and execute an implementation plan to bridge the gaps identified. 
  • Develop management/administrative tools to support and advance quality, safety and the transition to high reliability within the redesigned program/service.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 15-20 years of professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Healthcare or Biomedical Engineering preferred
  • Architecture (buildings)
  • Management Consulting Experience
  • Facilities management and safety
  • Construction management and safety
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Emergency management services
  • 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, such as with large delivery systems and/or hospital networks
  • Healthcare system/hospital operations-Healthcare/clinical/biomedical engineering
  • Facility operations/management
  • Infrastructure management, Construction management
  • Sterile processing/reusable medical equipment
  • Environmental compliance
  • Utilities/hazardous energy management
  • Patient and employee safety
  • Water safety, Fire safety, Emergency management services
  • Experience with healthcare accreditation, auditing, and compliance bodies
  • The Joint Commission (TJC)
  • Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
  • Office of the Inspector General (OIG)
  • Ability to travel <25-75%
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in engineering; Healthcare or Biomedical Engineering preferred
  • Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS) Assessor, Lead & Internal Auditor certification(s)
  • ISO 12001 Acoustics knowledge
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification
  • ISO 31000 Risk Management Professional certification
  • OSH 6500 Assessor Certification desirable
  • U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Public Health Traineeship (PHT) program participation
  • Lean Six Sigma certification
