ERPi is currently seeking a full-time Biostatistician to provide onsite support at our Bethesda, MD site.

The Role:
This candidate will lead ERPi’s computational biology consulting practice area and serve as an advisor to ERPi’s clients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The Biostatistician will serve our NHLBI client by complementing the client organization’s existing capabilities in computational biology, biostatistics, large medical research data sets, and quantitative biology. The Biostatistician will provide the following consulting support:
  • Provide leadership for a broad range of biostatistics initiatives and projects that align with NHBLI's strategic plans for data science;
  • Support the implementation of new platforms and computational methods to gain deeper insights from NHLBI's biomedical data resources; and
  • Help mature the competencies and capabilities of the biomedical research community to capitalize on new large-scale biomedical data and analytic tools.
Specific Tasks May Include:
  • Lead research projects in data science and work collaboratively with stakeholders to advance data science in biomedical research.
  • Lead the development, design, and implementation of machine learning algorithms and techniques to address scientific and business problems.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the team and provide guidance to team for applying appropriate algorithms or solutions to tackle different problems.
  • Develop sophisticated visualization of analysis output for end customers.
  • Analyze data statistics to address data limitations in machine learning/AI models; create and utilize necessary methods, algorithms, and tools to improve data quality and applicability

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 5 + years of related experience plus an advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (i.e., mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, etc.)
  • Experience in biostatistical analysis, quantitative biology, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing (A/B testing), and optimization algorithms.
  • Experience working with large medical research datasets using tools like SQL
  • Experience in using statistical modeling and distributed machine learning algorithms on large medical research data sets
  • Experience in text analytics and sentiment-analysis
  • Experience in the use of statistical packages: SAS and R
  • Experience using NIH or medical research data
  • Experience with data standardization and data governance processes
  • Demonstrated strong communication and presentation skills (particularly to non-technical audiences)
  • Strong team player, able to manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing client needs
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative, results-driven environment
  • Ability to obtain a government Public Trust/NACI clearance

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Masters Degree in a related field (Data Science, Computational Biology, Finance, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, etc.) preferred
  • Experience designing and developing analytic algorithms and techniques in support of robotic processing automation, machine learning, and/or other forms of artificial intelligence, specifically in the research science or biological context
  • Experience working in a medical research environment
  • Experience using analytical tools, such as R/R Studio, SPSS, SAS, or advanced data quality analysis toolkits preferred
  • Experience working with data quality and business improvement initiatives preferred
